Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is the walk to the waterfalls?

The walk to Ouzoud Waterfalls involves descending and later ascending a pathway with steps and inclines. The path is well-maintained but can be challenging for those with mobility issues or knee problems. The descent to the base takes about 20-30 minutes at a leisurely pace, and the ascent back up takes 30-45 minutes. For those who prefer not to walk, donkey rides are available at an additional cost. We recommend wearing comfortable, sturdy shoes with good grip. The walk is manageable for most people with average fitness levels, with plenty of resting points along the way.

Can we swim at Ouzoud Waterfalls?

Yes, swimming is possible in the natural pools at the base of Ouzoud Waterfalls, but it depends on the season and water conditions. The best time for swimming is from late spring to early autumn (May to October) when water levels are safe and temperatures are warmer. During winter and spring, the water flow can be very strong and swimming may be prohibited for safety reasons. Even when swimming is allowed, always follow local guidelines and your guide's advice. We recommend bringing swimwear, a towel, and water shoes if you plan to swim. Changing facilities are available at some of the local restaurants.

Is the boat ride included?

The traditional boat ride to experience the waterfall mist is not included in the tour price but is available as an optional activity at an additional cost (typically 20-40 MAD per person, payable directly to the boat operator). The boat ride takes you close to the base of the waterfalls where you can feel the refreshing mist - a memorable experience especially on hot days. Whether the boat rides operate depends on water conditions and safety considerations. Your guide can help arrange this activity if you're interested and conditions permit.

Are the monkeys wild or safe?

The Barbary macaques at Ouzoud Waterfalls are wild animals living in their natural habitat. While they are generally accustomed to human presence, they are still wild and should be treated with respect and caution. Do not attempt to touch or feed the monkeys, and keep a safe distance. They may approach looking for food, but it's important not to feed them as this disrupts their natural diet and behavior. Keep your belongings secure as monkeys can be curious about bags and food. Your guide will provide specific safety instructions regarding interactions with the wildlife during your visit..Morocco
